My 2nd Motivational Talk

Today, I was invited to speak at the CIRC (Central India Regional Council) Bareilly Branch of ICAI (Institute of Chartered Accountants of India). I spoke to the aspiring Chartered Accountants.

The talk was on Personality development and I was to cover topics such as Goal setting, Attitude, Motivation, Self-Analysis. The audience were sincere and attentive and I enjoyed communing with them. The talk was very well received and I am happy about it. I was also presented with a memento /gift from the organizers and this makes me happier (he-he!!). But the icing on the cake was when a young man, Chetan, asked me for my autograph. This was very flattering, as no one had ever asked me for my autograph. I obliged the request and wrote a small encouraging note for him.

I spoke on mindset, on having an inquiring mind, realizing our infinite potential, being authentic, working hard, never giving up etc. My last post in this series was very long and therefore, this time I will briefly cover the lessons drawn :

1. I am happy that I successfully implemented my learnings from my last talk. Except the rehearsing part. Surely, next time I am going to look into this.

2. Start strong ( this also is going to be the area of focus)

3. No jargons. keep it simple-plain vanilla (I did OK here)

4. What can you say that's new? (scored here too)

5. The goal of the talk must be VERY clear. It helps the speaker to stay on course and helps the audience in assimilation.(Point noted)

6. A brief silence helps in connecting with the audience. This should be done to get intimate with the audience and not for effect. (Did it)

7. Being yourself, being authentic, saying plainly what you mean, sharing your ideas, using anecdotes, examples and stories to put across a point-all these really help. I am glad I could do this. (Happy here)

8. Practicing the transitions brings grace in the talk. It gets you from one point to the next with certainty. (This I need to learn)

  2. Dear Vikas...I just like to share my thoughts...And when someone feels inspired and gets benefited, I do feel great about it... I do not know about becoming a Guru, but certainly helping others in their self improvement has always been on my mind. It is said that a self improving man is a happy man.
